What is dual enrollment?

通常, students must complete three semester credit hours at the postsecondary level to equal one credit (Carnegie unit) at the high school level in the same or related subject. Each course must be crosswalked by the Local Education Agency (LEA) before high school equivalency credit can be determined for named academic courses. Each LEA must crosswalk the secondary course of study and the post-secondary syllabus. High school crosswalks are not required for courses counting as elective credit (career technical courses, 美术课程, 等.)
学生 are responsible for the cost of tuition, 费用, textbooks and materials/supplies as required in the syllabus of each course unless covered by alternative funding sources, such as scholarships. Some dual enrollment students may qualify to participate in the tuition repayment plan. 学生 not enrolled in the tuition repayment plan, who fail to pay tuition and 费用 by the end of the drop/add period are not considered enrolled and may be dropped from course rolls. If a high school teacher meets the credentialing requirements of the college and is employed as an adjunct instructor by the college, the course may be taught by the high school teacher at the high school. With permission from parents and school administrators, students may travel on their own to college campuses to take classes. 学生 may also take dual enrollment courses online, however it is suggested that students taking an online course be recommended by their high school counselor, due to the discipline required. Dual enrollment students are encouraged to take summer classes to shorten their time toward a degree.
Each student can request one official transcript at no charge. After the initial complimentary copy, a $5 fee will be assessed for each additional transcript requested.
Gadsden State has partnered with Parchment to accept online transcript requests. 点击这里了解更多.
If the student wishes to pick up a transcript from the 招生 and Records Office, he/she should be prepared to make the request online and show a photo ID at the time of pickup. Transcripts are issued only at the documented request and authorization of the student concerned.
Dual enrollment is an opportunity for students. 学生 and parents should understand that dual enrollment courses are college courses. 因此, the amount of work necessary to succeed in dual enrollment courses may be much greater than high school courses.
Academic transfer courses will transfer to colleges and universities in Alabama according to the Alabama Transfers program (formerly STARS guide). 访问 http://alabamatransfers.com for more information. 学生 who plan to attend a college or university out of state should contact that institution directly for specific transfer information. Technical courses are not designed for transfer to a 4-year college or university. 然而, these courses allow students to start early on their chosen technical program at Gadsden State. These courses can lead to an AAS degree or certificate that can help prepare students for careers in high-wage, high-demand career fields.
Both types of courses are beneficial for students wishing to pursue post-secondary education. Advanced Placement (AP) classes which award credit based on a test. Dual enrollment courses award credit as long as the student passes the class. 学生 and parents/guardians should carefully consider which option of obtaining college credit BEST meets their individuals post-secondary and/or career goals.
